Committed. United. Driven.

In the 1960s, my grandparents immigrated to the United States from Iran in the hopes of creating a new life for themselves and their children. However, their foreign culture wasn’t fully accepted in American society at first; it took more than a generation and conquering a slew of obstacles—a hostage crisis, a revolution, and economic sanctions—for my family to wholeheartedly believe they were American. At Davidson, I am humbled by the fact that I can express myself unconditionally and often feel comfortable on this campus. However, just because I can does not mean that everyone can. I want to ensure that all students on this campus feel empowered to express their identities however they choose. I want every student to feel like their voice is both heard and valued. Why? Because Davidson should be for all of us.

The first thought to come to my mind when I ask myself why I am running for SGA Vice President is simple: I love Davidson. Coming from a public high school not much smaller than Davidson, I knew that I was going to be a part of a small community. What I did not realize then was just how big of an impact that this small community would have on me after a few years on this campus. Through my involvement with SGA, Union Board, Dinner at Davidson, the club crew team, and several others, I have been fortunate enough to connect with many of the most talented and brightest group of students in the nation. I firmly believe that every individual on this campus is a leader in their own right and has a voice to be heard and that, in itself, is why I am running for SGA Vice President. I am passionate about empowering others and I am confident that through teamwork, together we can make our community a home.
